The Clean Earth Trust team are hosting a family friendly festive community beach clean this Boxing Day.
This free event will start at Port Soif at 9am on the 26th December, where participants will be briefed and given a beach cleaning kit including a bucket, pair of gloves and picker. The walk will track the shores of Port Soif and Grandes Rocques, concluding at Cobo by 10:30 in time to join the Guernsey Cheshire Home’s Boxing Day Cobo Bay Swim.
Those interested in joining The Clean Earth Trust for the Boxing Day Beach Clean should register on Eventbrite or email hello@cleanearthtrust.org Participants are encouraged to wear good walking shoes, waterproofs, warm layers and something sustainably festive.
Helen Quin from The Clean Earth Trust comments, “We see beach cleaning as having so many benefits. Removing waste and contamination from our marine environment and coastal shores are the obvious priority, and we will be looking closely at and recording what we find. It's also an important time of year to plant seeds of individual responsibility and think about how we can each make small changes to live more sustainable lives as we enter a new year.”
There will be two drop off points for kit and litter at the end of the beach clean; Cobo for those braving the winter waters; and Port Soif for those that want to amble back to the carpark.
“Beach cleaning is also a chance for people to come together with a common goal, stretch their legs, embrace the fresh air and help offset their Christmas lunch. We have timed the beach clean to make sure that those wanting to attend the sea swim can attend both events and make a morning of it. We do hope everyone packs their bathers and jumps in with us at the end!” continues Helen.
