About the Event
Our Monthly Repair Cafe Pop-up and Clothes Swap series takes place the first Saturday of every month at The Golden Lion.
Join us from 12:30 - 16:00, where we will have a team of fixers to help with clothing, textiles and small electrical repairs. Please see the FAQ below for more details.
Alongside repairs, this is an opportunity to also update your wardrobe by bringing along clothes, shoes and accessories to exchange in our clothes swap (£2 to take part).
Local homemade cakes, tea and coffee will be on sale whilst you browse.
We also welcome donations of any fabric, broken clothing, zips, buttons, ribbons and thread that we can upcycle into
something new.
This is an open event but if you have items for repair please register in advance so we can allocate you a slot: https://bit.ly/RepairCafeBooking
FAQ
Where and when is the next Repair Café?
The Repair Café currently runs a textiles session every Wednesday from 10:00 – 14:00 in Health Connections on Smith Street. A monthly Pop-Up runs at The Golden Lion on Market Street the 1st Saturday of the Month from 12:30 – 16:00 for textiles, leather and small electricals.
What can be repaired?
Small electrical appliances, clothing, textiles, leather, housewares and toys. A general rule is that one person should be able to carry the item!
Currently we are unable to repair electronics such as TV’s, microwaves, audio devices, computers or mobile phones but we can check their power supply to see if this is where the problem lies.
Please do get in touch before hand if you are not sure if an item might be repairable.
Is the service free?
The service is free but voluntary donations are greatly appreciated and go towards the running of the Repair Cafes. Tip jars are provided on the repair tables.
Repairers are always keen to teach visitors how to do the repair themselves so please try and remain with your items being fixed.
What can I do if my item cannot be fixed?
Volunteer repairers try their best to complete fixes on items they’re looking at. However, sometimes when more costly spare parts are required, it can become uneconomical and not environmentally sustainable to repair.
There are many shops and businesses offering great services above and beyond what we can do. Please get in touch if you would like more information on other local repairers.
Do I need to book?
Booking is not essential but a form is available here which may save you time on the day (see link below).
Can I volunteer?
Please get in touch if you’d like to join our team of volunteers on Wednesdays, the 1st Saturday of the month or at ad hoc repair events.
